Ashbourne Farms is a third-generation farm rooted in traditions born of the bluegrass; a 2,000-acre property that stands in reverence of nature and love for the outdoors. On our historic property, we honor the legacy and values of our family who built this farm and preserved its land. Today we draw from the same well of care, and strive to share the natural beauty of Kentucky through a world-class, luxury farm experience.
Tell us about the venue's legacy.
Ashbourne Farms has enjoyed a few weddings and events for friends and family over the years. The farm was actually a wedding gift to W.L. Lyons Brown and Sally [Shallenburger] Brown. When the farm was founded in 1937, a modest gift from Sally’s grandfather, Ashton Cockayne Shallenburger, provided several Scottish Shorthorn cattle and a bull for the young couple. From meager beginnings, the Browns built this farm from the ground up, suffusing the property with a deep love of agriculture and nature. Their legacy is the foundation upon which the modern-day iteration of Ashbourne Farms flourishes.
What's the philosophy behind Ashbourne Farms?
Years of thoughtful care went into restoring Ashbourne Farms to the picturesque splendor of its heyday. You will find the original farmhouse, erected in the mid-1800’s, restored along with a number of other historic structures. More than that, Ashbourne Farms has nurtured its vision of preservation and natural conservation with intention. In doing so, our family made the decision to open Ashbourne Farms to the public, so that others could experience it's beauty.
