Ali + Drew’s Sweet Campus Engagement Session by Kristin Sweeting | Nashville Tennessee Engagements & Proposals

And so the story goes… boy meets girl in college and the rest is history! Ali + Drew met while attending Nashville's very own Vanderbilt University. With the help of Nashville-based travel photographer Kristin Sweeting, the couple revisited their beginnings and shot their engagement photos around campus! From Peabody Lawn to Hawkins Field, each place held significance to the couple. Drew's strong ties to the Vanderbilt baseball team – from his role as catcher all the way to Assistant Athletic Director, let's just say Vandy baseball has been a huge part of their relationship. Showcasing the field and his jerseys in the photos was so them! I'll hand it over to Ali to tell y'all the rest of their story!

Tell us about your wedding!

Ali: We’re expecting around 275 guests at our wedding. We’re getting married at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in October, with the ceremony in the Rotunda (the actual Hall of Fame) and the reception upstairs in the Event Hall- breathtaking views of downtown Nashville through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. I grew up in New York, so with over half of our guests coming from out of town, we really wanted our wedding to be in the heart of downtown in a very “Nashville” location. The Country Music Hall of Fame is the perfect setting.

Tell us about your engagement session. Where did it take place?

Ali: We took our photos on Vanderbilt University’s campus. Not only do we think it’s the most beautiful spot in Nashville, but it’s also where we met, and where Drew works! Though we got engaged in December, we waited to take our pictures until June. The campus is in full bloom over the summer (did you know it’s a national arboretum?), and we wanted to wait until after graduation so that there were fewer students on campus when we were taking photos.

What’s the significance of the location(s)?

Ali: Where do I even start? We had the best time walking around campus, visiting the places that made (and still make!) Vanderbilt home to us. We started on Peabody’s campus, taking photos outside of the building that we met inside in 2009 when we had a class together. We took photos on Peabody Lawn before heading to Kirkland, Vanderbilt’s iconic clock town building. I love the photos taken on the stairs here; we look so relaxed and the sun was just starting to set. We made a quick outfit change (bye high heels!) and headed to Hawkins Field, Vanderbilt’s baseball field, a place where Drew has spent more hours than I could possibly count. He was a catcher on the team throughout college, and then worked on staff for the baseball team for four years before transitioning to an Assistant Athletic Director role. I’ve loved getting to know this special place and cheering on the team from the stands. We even snuck in a few photos wearing Drew’s old jerseys 🙂

What was it like working with your photographer?

Ali: Working with Kristin is a total dream. We clicked with her the first time we met, and knew she’d be the perfect person to capture our wedding. She values tradition and family, and loves to have fun. She made us feel relaxed and comfortable, and shooting on film makes her photos timeless and magical.

Thank you so much for sharing your photos with us, Ali! They are beautiful! Check out more of Kristin Sweeting's work here on her website and also follow along on Instagram to see her work – she's currently in Paris with other area (and beyond!) photographers!
